What we do

The only scope of our work is to ensure adequate respect for human rights. Amnesty International has been long respected for its independent insight into human rights violations around the world and prompt mobilization of its members, who act together for the release of prisoners of conscience and demand accountability of those who commit or permit abuses.

Amnesty International regularly publishes the outcomes of the research it conducts, often following field missions to problematic locations. Findings about Moldova can be found here. The organization’s Annual Reports, issued since 1962, provide an overview of the state of human rights situation on global and regional scale, as well as summaries of human rights situation in more than 160 countries and territories.

One of the most efficient lobbying tactics used by Amnesty International is launching Urgent Actions to support individuals who face persecution. Thousands of prisoners of conscience have been released following millions of letters and petitions from members and supporters of Amnesty International. Petitioning is also used to put pressure on governments so that they scrap policies and practices that lead to violations of human rights. Public actions are conducted to raise awareness of people in the street about ongoing abuses and to invite them to add their voices to the global call for justice and dignity.

Amnesty International is a media-friendly movement – dozens of press releases are issued each week by the International Secretariat, whereas sections and structures in various parts of the world are actively engaged in communicating with the local media. Information on our work with the press can be found in the media section of this site.

Check out the latest international and local news to find out more about our work. If you wish to get involved in any of our activities, you can view updates and announcements about pending events.
